Appsmith is an open-source low-code platform for internal tools — admin panels, dashboards, approval flows and operational UIs on top of your database or API. It is a long-standing alternative to Retool and ToolJet, and its pricing has one structural quirk worth understanding before you compare: it charges for every user in the workspace rather than only for developers who build apps. Community edition is free, self-hosted and open source. The cloud Free plan is $0 for up to five users with five workspaces, three Git repositories, Google SSO and three standard roles. Business is $15 per user per month and raises the ceiling to 99 users while adding unlimited environments, Git repositories and workspaces, Workflows, reusable packages, premium integrations, custom roles, audit logs and branding removal. Enterprise is $2,500 per month for 100 users with unlimited users above that, adding SAML and OIDC SSO, SCIM provisioning and group sync, CI/CD, private app embedding, an air-gapped edition as an add-on, managed hosting on dedicated servers, high availability, SOC 2 Type 2 and 24x7 support with SLA. New signups get a 15-day Business trial with no credit card. The per-user model is the cost trap. Anyone added to a workspace counts as a user, and any member present at any point in a billing cycle is billed for the whole month, so viewer-only colleagues and short-lived contractor accounts all add up. The per-user price also rises sharply at the enterprise boundary: $15 per user on Business versus roughly $25 per user at the 100-user Enterprise floor. Self-hosting avoids licence fees on Community but leaves you the infrastructure, upgrades and backup work, and the air-gapped deployment that regulated teams need is an Enterprise add-on rather than a Business feature.

If you need the cloud platform, keep the workspace under five users to stay on Free, and audit membership monthly — because every member present at any point in a billing cycle is billed for the full month.
